Happy Saturday! I am big on repurposing, reusing and recycling. How about you? Or do you ever see a cute item that just doesn't fit your home decorations? Today's project will show you how to "upcycle" a ceramic figurine from the Dollar Store!
Recipe for a Fantasy Horse
Ingredients:
- Ceramic Horse
- Spray gilding paint
- Paper
- Washi Tape
- Embroidery Floss
- Fingernail polish
- Dimensional Adhesive
- Wet Adhesive
- Dew Drops - gold, pink and clear
1. Take your ceramic piece outside. Spray with three coats of gilding paint. I used Krylon brand. Before you start be sure to protect the surface you are spraying on by using a spray box or spreading newspaper. Let dry between each coat, so you can see any areas you may have missed. By the way, I started with a flat white horse, if it has a shiny finish you may need to lightly sand your ceramic for the best results.
2. While your painted ceramic is drying, Attach washi tape to paper, alternatively you could simply use a piece of patterned paper. Cut paper to 4 inches by 2 inches. Cut 1/4 inch out beginning at 1 1/2 from each edge. This will form the saddle
3, Decorate the saddle with Dew Drops. I used pink and gold, which you will find here.
I used Aleen's Tacky Glue to adhere the Dew Drops.
4. Place the saddle on the now dry horse. I used dimensional tape to adhere it. One piece below the saddle and one on each side. I then painted the top portion of the saddle with hot pink fingernail polish.
5, Adhere other embellishments, as desired to fit your vision. I used three mini fabric flowers and bows made from embroidery floss.
Hope you enjoy this project and give it a try yourself!
