Mixed Media Under the Sea Themed Journal

Happy Saturday everyone!  I have finally taken the plunge into a You Tube instructional channel for crafting.  I hope you will consider subscribing and liking my videos!  I definitely have a lot to learn.  It is another way to challenge my skills!

This is my second video project.  I did this for the July Mission Inspiration for the Mike Deakin Art Group on Facebook.  I will also be taking over the daily mini-inspirations called Quarantine Quickies!  I am very excited to have the opportunity.

Clearly my interpretation of the color of the Ocean is different.  But I think I hit the theme okay!  My process video will be up on my You Tube Channel.  I had a lot of fun making the Ocean-ish back ground.  Lots of inks by Tim Holtz and Ranger and some very old opaque white mist from my stash.  I love the dimension the Dew Drops give the page and a little mystery of where the bubbles are coming from or what!  Thanks for stopping by!

Have a wonderful Saturday!

Yoga themed Mixed Media Journal

Happy Saturday! Victoria here.  I am back with another wonderful Dew Drops Canvas and a notebook with a yoga theme.  This was such a relaxing project to do and I have a useful notebook to gift to a friend.

Here are the products you need for this project:

Dew Drops Canvas in Artsy Namaste

A composition book

Echo Park Paper from the Little Girl Collection Kit (Lilac strip)

Jacquard Lumiere Paints in Pewter, Halo Blue Gold, and Halo Violet Gold

Tim Holtz Stencil

Dew Drops

Prima Chalk in Branch Bark

5/8 inch Grosgrain Ribbon - ivory and gold chevron

Liquid Adhesive - Aleene's Tacky Glue

Steps:
  • Prepare the composition book by adhering paper to the front and back, inking the outer edges with branch bark chalk ink.

  • Prepare the canvas.  I stenciled along the left side beginning with the Halo Violet Gold and working down with the Halo Blue Gold doing transitions by mixing the two colors.  Toward the bottom I mixed Halo Blue Gold with Pewter to darken it.  Let this paint dry thoroughly.  Overnight is best.

  • Adhere Drops with Liquid Adhesive.  I found a Chakra Chart on line and followed that generally for the color placement, using a rainbow of Dew Drops colors.  (You really need them all).  This was such a relaxing project.  I use a wax tipped nail tool to  pick up and place the Dew Drops.  It makes it so easy and placement is exact.  It's just like coloring a lovely picture.

  • Let your canvas dry thoroughly.
  • Adhere the canvas using liquid adhesive to the front of the composition notebook covered with paper and let dry.
  • As a final touch, I added the grosgrain ribbon with long tails so that the composition book can be neatly tied closed.  I used liquid adhesive here too.  You could also add a tie using eyelets and ribbon for a longer lasting book.

  • All done!

Two Peas in a Pod Embracing Happiness - Mixed Media Tag

Happy Saturday!  Let's create a mixed media tag using just a few items that I had on hand.

Ingredients:
#5 Manila tag
Brusho Colours - I used turquois, scarlet, ultramarine, and purple
Mini water spritzer
Shimmerz Dazzlerz in Foiled Again
Stencil with various size circles
Dew Drops in lovely shades of blue  (You need to get your favorite colors in a variety of shapes)
Tim Holtz Ideology Paper Dolls
A pen and straight edge
Rub on sentiment
Liquid adhesive and dimensional tape

Directions:

1.  Spritz your manila tag with water and sprinkle with your desired colours of Brusho watercolour crystals.  Let dry.

2.  Add dimensional texture paste (dazzlerz) through the stencil in the upper left corner and on the right side.  Let dry completely.

3.  Add the rub on.  Notice if you look closely there was a tiny problem with adherence of the letters in two tiny spots.  I filled that in with a black pen.  Shhhhh! Don't tell.

4.  Add the paper dolls with dimensional tape.

5.  Create a border with a pen and straight edge or whatever you choose.

6.  Adhere dew drops as is pleasing to you for accents with liquid adhesive.  Let dry and share your photo with us on our Facebook page!

Hope you've enjoyed this quick little project.  It would really brighten any gift and was just the "art therapy" I needed to brighten my mood as we are staying home and staying safe in the US at this time.

Best wishes and happy crafting to all of you!

Happy Saturday!  I am happy to show you how make this mixed media paint brush featuring dew drops.

Here are the ingredients you will use:

Directions:

1.  Coat your paint brush  and embellishments with Gesso, as needed.  Allow to dry

2.  Paint your paint brush with acrylic paint.

  3.  Add gold texture paste to wooden part of brush through the stencil. Note that I also used vintage matte medium prior to stenciling.  This is totally optional and you don't need to do it.  I also wrapped the brush with twine.  I found it helps hold the stencil in place.

4.  I painted the brush after the dimensional paste dried,  with the metallic bronze gleams.  Once that is dryBegin embellishing!  Sorry for the super messy photo normally I would not even show you this state of work!  Messy messy crafter!

Never be afraid to show your work in process!  I also glued the cathedral frame onto the upper brush next!

5.  This is the brush with all the embellishments glued with tacky glue to the brush.  Notice how the white gaps I had before are gone!  To do this is used the Florentine gold leaf.  It is super liquid and can cover all the little nooks and crannies!  Next I added paper flowers and a charm of Mary in the Cathedral window.

6. Finally I used royal robe and rose gold waxes on the Cathedral window and on other areas of the brush to add highlights.  I use my fingers to do this, but you can always use a make up sponge to apply and buff the wax.

Hope you enjoyed this project!  I'll see you on the 18th for another fun project!
I really hope that you are weathering this difficult time well and having some time for creativity while you are social distancing.

Mixed Media Tree Canvas

Have you seen the Dew Drop Canvases?  They are wonderful.  This post is part one of a two part posting on making an art journal using one of the canvases and dew drops.

The ingredients for this portion of the project are:

Diamond Dew Drops Sunset Diamond Dew Drops
Mini Dew Drops  Light Vanilla and Neon Yellow
Arteza Metallic Fabric Paint - light gold, pearl orange and pearl rose
E6000 1oz glue

Instructions:

This is so easy and fun to make!

1.  Cover your work surface for painting and paint the canvas with metallic fabric paint.  I painted one at a time and let each dry thoroughly before applying the next layer.

2.  Let your canvas dry overnight.  Check the instructions on your paints for any steps needed to ensure the paint is color fast.

3.  Apply dew drops as desired with the fine tip applicator with E6000 glue.  Allow to dry thoroughly.

Pick a canvas you like and a size that you like.  In two weeks on  March 21, 2020 we will be posting how to make an art journal using our prepared canvas.

Enjoy and be well!
