Holiday Time is Coming!

I am having a wonderful time getting ready for the Christmas season!  Here are a few of the fun projects I recently made using products from Vintage Street Market.  The last tag is featured in their holiday project on-line publication available from the web site.  I love the look of old and new mixed together.  I hope you do too! VSM has a lot of fun products of their own creation and the best by favorite companies, plus loads of vintage finds.  If you have never checked them out, do!  It will be well worth your time.

Happy Creating!

Preparing for the Holidays!

The holidays are fast approaching!  I am in denial.   When did we get to the end of October?  In fact, when did summer end?

Today, I want to show you two cards made with products from Vintage Street Market.  I just cannot get enough of the Family Fun Paper Pack.  I love these paper dolls.  They remind me of vintage photos from the 1950s and early 1960s.  And, how much fun is playing with paper dolls?

I made two cards recently featuring the VSM products and May Arts ribbon.  I really like the bold look of the ribbons.  Vintage Street Market has some great green ribbon, just like the red on the girl card.  Grab it now, before I do!

The stamps on these cards are from Crafty Secrets.  So super simple to stamp with black ink.
Thanks for stopping by and let me know what you think about these cards and what you would like to see in the future!

Both of these layouts were made with vintage and new items found at Vintage Street Market.  You can find details about the products I used on their post from the 30th of the month.

Lovely Ladies - My Creative Sketches August Sketch

We have a lot of super cute little ones that come into our office as babies for their first six months of life.  We have had a total of six girls in the office and are expecting lucky number 7 in November.  We also will be having another as of yet unspecified gender little one.  It is so wonderful that the mom's (and dad's) can bring their little ones in.  It makes for a wonderful lift in the work environment AND it keeps us appreciating family and the health benefits of nursing.

This LO is of three of the little ones, taken at a baby shower.  It is from a sketch for the month of August on My Creative Sketches!  I love the papers and embellishments, since usually I am working on "boyish" layouts that don't call for pinks and pastels.

Thanks for stopping by!

Dog Days of Summer

We got a puppy in March, her name was originally Judy.  She is a super cute black lab mix. When we got her, we named her Pearl, as in Black Pearl.  She is so lovely and so super energetic.  She gets to go play at a great place in Portland called Lazy Dog, Crazy Dog once or twice a week. Guess which side Miss Pearly is on?
She had wiggled her way into all our hearts, especially so since we almost lost her as a puppy.  She got sick from eating raw salmon (we think before we got her).  We had to give her two courses of medicine and hand feed her ice chips and teaspoons of water to keep her alive.  Now her favorite doggie treat is ice chips.......
Here are two projects I made featuring her.  Next up will be a layout of Pearl and her new turquoise collar.  (She thinks she looks really pretty in it).

Thanks for stopping by!  And enjoy the dog days of summer!

My story is about Ruth and Eugene and a photograph they sent to their grandma in Wisconsin.
I chose my mom and uncle's middle names to name these children and used the family name of "Whitney" for the grandma.

The story reads:
"Have you ever seen two more handsome children murmured Grandma Whitney when she received the photograph of her two grandchildren, Ruth and Eugene.  The children and their family had just settled in on the Western Frontier of the United States.  The family had moved, leaving Grandma behind in
Wisconsin.

The studio was a great find in the port town of Tacoma.  Some said it should be the state capital, while still others felt that Seattle would make a better state capital.  But mama had taken the children there for a cherished photograph to send to Grandma.

Grandma dearly missed Ruth and Eugene.  She had taught young Ruth to sew before she moved and hoped to teach her to knit as well.

Eugene had been a sickly young boy.  In the photo he looked completely recovered, but Grandma still remembered when he was a baby and got the whooping cough.  Everyone was so afraid he would die.  She smiled to see him now.   He looked so healthy and handsome.

Grandma slipped the photo postcard into her Bible.  She prayed that the two children would be safe.  She looked forward to visiting them next year.  She settled back into her rocking chair, closed the Bible and closed her eyes with a smile on her lips.

The LO was made using Pink Paislee, Pinion, and Ruby Rocket Papers, Jolee's flowers, Tape from Vintage Street Market and Embellishments from Crafty Secrets.  The buttons and mother of pearl from my vintage stash.

Hope you enjoy my interpretation of this fun formal photo.

A New Sketch with a Summer Feel

I am enjoying the little bits of sun we are getting in the Northwest.  I also am feeling re-energized about creating.  I prepared this sketch with the idea of three dimensional barn stars.  It would make a great western themed boy layout, one for Memorial Day, or planning ahead in red, white and blue for the 4th of July.  The stars easily swap out for another element, like flowers for all of you with girls out there.  Let me know if you use my sketch and where it is posted.  I love to come and comment!
Have a wonderful day AND let's think summer!

Simple Springtime Pleasures

Here is a sketch for my pals! The weather has been amazing here in Portland, so we have had lots and lots of baseball and softball. Our life has looked like this:
We just had our first cancelled game tonight. Which in the Northwest is nothing short of miraculous! I am working on a graduation project for a friend, so look for some football pictures here soon! I might have to change the name of my blog to "scrappy sports blog" or something like that! Have a great week!

Cowboys Everywhere

I seem to have a cowboy theme going on right now. I just finished an art challenge using my sketchbook, the colors ochre, brown, and blue with walnut ink. I love this vintage image that I copied from an old school book that I bought from Salvage Nation on Etsy. It is from about 1964 and it reminds me a bit of elementary school. I tried to make the background look a little like a watercolor Pendelton blanket.

Last month I finished three projects using Vintage Street Market products. I had a great time with the cowboy image and a hand folded barn star.

Aren't these vintage images just the cutest?

I am going for a more feminine look this month, so be sure to follow my blog and see some girly creations too!

Have a wonderful week!

February Sketch for Scrappy Chic Cafe

I have been having fun with monthly sketches at Scrappy Chic Cafe.
Here is the sketch I created for this month's sketch challenge. Would love to see all of you enter.

I have really been getting into making tags recently. I have two new ones that feature lots of vintage papers and images. The backgrounds on the two tags are vintage papers, some from the 1940s and the other that has the text how to judge character is from a vintage Arthur Murray dance studio dance booklet. Just too fun. Hope you enjoy and find a little inspiration.

Do have a wonderful week!

Hint of a New Canvas - for a Valentine Friend-

Just a little teaser for my next canvas. This one is another 6 x 12 canvas. I am doing it for a Valentine's Day swap, so I can't give the whole canvas away - yet! I have been working with the Liquitex glass bead medium. This time I decided to add a mix of my own rose beads, white pearlescent beads, and Swarovski Crystals. I covered the surface with Glossy Accents to make sure that everything would stay together. I am liking how it looks! What do you think?

I also am interested in knowing if my followers are interested in more tutorials on this blog. Let me know, if you don't mind.

Have a wonderful day!
